Mindful Play

Information, resources, and Canadian help organisations for adults who want to maintain healthy boundaries with digital entertainment.

01. Understanding Social Entertainment

Social entertainment platforms, including free social experiences like WhistlerFjord, are designed to be engaging and enjoyable. Research in behavioural psychology shows that interactive entertainment can activate reward-related brain pathways in ways that are pleasurable — and, for most people, entirely harmless.

However, for approximately 1–3% of adults, engagement with any form of interactive entertainment — including free-to-use social platforms — can develop patterns that affect daily life, relationships, or work. Recognising the early signs of problematic engagement is a protective skill that all adults benefit from developing.

02. What WhistlerFjord Is — and Is Not

WhistlerFjord is a free social entertainment platform. It uses virtual tokens that have absolutely no monetary value. You cannot:

This means that no financial risk attaches to using WhistlerFjord. The platform is not a gambling service under Canadian law. Nonetheless, if you find that engagement with the platform is consuming more time than you intended, or if stopping feels difficult, the resources on this page can help.

03. Early Signs to Notice

The following patterns may indicate that entertainment engagement has become habitual in ways worth reflecting on:

Noticing one of these signs does not mean there is a problem — it means self-awareness is working. Two or more signs experienced regularly may be worth discussing with a professional.

04. Canadian Help Organisations

The following organisations offer free, confidential support to Canadian adults and their families. All contacts below are active as of 2026.

Gamblers Anonymous

An international fellowship for individuals who want to stop compulsive behaviours related to interactive entertainment or gambling. Meetings are available across Canada, including British Columbia.

Gambling Guidelines Canada (LRGG)

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) publish national guidelines for healthy engagement with entertainment activities. These guidelines include practical tools for setting limits and self-assessing engagement patterns.

GambleAware

An independent charity offering free information, advice, and treatment referral for people affected by problematic engagement with entertainment. Although UK-origin, GambleAware's resources and self-help tools are available internationally and widely used by Canadians.

You can also use browser-level tools (website blockers, screen-time apps) if you find that setting personal limits is difficult.
